About The Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated teacher to teach students at Key Stage 3 and 4, and to join a team which seeks to change the world one young person at a time. Applicants from all specialisms are welcomed (including primary trained teachers).

Our students require support to build trusting relationships with adults and you will have high expectations and a belief that they can succeed. You will help to raise the academic profile of The Lodestar Academy by supporting us to prove that all pupils are capable of social and academic success when provided with the appropriate level of support.

In return, you will develop your teaching skills as part of a small but supportive team of expert practitioners, all of whom believe that education can be a meaningful and rewarding experience for every young person, regardless of individual disadvantage. Training and professional development opportunities are exceptional, and salaries are extremely competitive.

About Us

Lodestar Academy is a dynamic academy based in Torbay, who have built an impressive reputation in the alternative education provision sector for young people aged 11-18.  We believe that all young people have the capacity to learn, regardless of their life situation. And our aim is to open the door to learning for those - often with social, emotional and mental health needs - who have been excluded or marginalised.

Our academy will provide a safe, nurturing environment for 50 secondary-age students who have been unable to sustain a place in mainstream education. By prioritising academic achievement and introducing behaviour interventions and therapeutic support where necessary, it will enable them to re-integrate at the same key stage as their peers, and go on to access opportunities into employment and further education.

Ofsted recently judged Lodestar Academy to be a good school :
"The welfare of pupils and their families is at the heart of The Lodestar Academy."
